2023 Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally

Ducati has just unveiled the Multistrada V4 Rally and with it, a solution to its thirst for gasoline. While much of the base Multi’ remains in place (the bike that topped our 2022 Adventure Test), the main headlines involve the addition of a 30-litre fuel capacity and a clever take on existing technology.

For someone who’s not overly fussed on fuel consumption/range, I was getting unnecessarily angry every time the Ducati’s fuel light came on, especially when its rivals and plenty in the tank, sir. But not only does the Multistrada V4 Rally boast a tank extension, the rear cylinder deactivation (technology already present on the current V4s, where the two cylinders are cut to reduce heat and fuel consumption at a standstill) has been further developed to deactivate when the bike is in motion during certain riding conditions. This should all equate to a more frugal ride.

There’s also a hike in suspension travel and ground clearance, plus wider footpegs and taller screen to cope with the obvious off-road capabilities. An ‘Enduro’ mode also culls power to a more manageable 114bhp – because 170bhp can get a tad squirrelly in the mud.

The Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally will be available in three versions; ‘Adventure Radar’ (avec Adaptive Cruise Control and Blind Spot Detection), ‘Adventure Travel & Radar’ (with the addition of aluminium side cases, heated grips and saddles) and the full-fat ‘Full Adventure’ with a homologated Akrapovič silencer and a carbon fibre front mudguard. Catchy names there.

You’ll also have two options of colour; red or black, and they’ll be available in Feb’ 23.

Are we looking at a GS beater? It’s the question we often pose when a new adventure bike is released and, although the Ducati won’t brag the inherent utilitarian characteristics of the BMW, its fuel crisis remedy will go a long way to challenging the big Bavarian bastard…
