Yamaha TMAX Tech MAX

The TMAX is more than just a scooter. It’s a twin cylinder, 560cc, ‘sports scooter’, that, according to Yamaha, brought the scooter and motorcycle worlds together for the very first time back in 2001 when the first version was released. Now, the Yamaha TMAX Tech Max, their eighth generation maxi-scoot has taken the sports scooter concept a step further.

Ok, it’s only actually a small step, but it’s a step in the right direction. Because it’s still a TMAX, but it’s ben sharpened up, in nearly every way. Starting with the styling. Almost every body panel and exterior part has been redesigned for 2022 making it the most compact and aggressive looking TMAX ever, in the history of TMAXs. It’s got new LED headlights, angular air intakes and ‘aggressively’ styled wins… so come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough.

The sharp new bodywork’s paired with even sharper handling thanks to a new set of spin forged wheels and Bridgestone Battlax SC2 tyres. Thanks to the lighter wheels on the new TMAX, the wheels moment of inertia is reduced by 10% at the front and 6% at the rear. Can’t be bad.

The jewel in the Yamaha TMAX Tech MAX crown though, is probably the new dash. It’s a 7” TFT unit with smartphone connectivity and Garmin Navigation. You can connect to it with Bluetooth, WiFi or via the USB socket in the little waterproof storage compartment. Once you’ve got connected, you can use the dash and the switchgears to control your music (if you’ve got your headset on), navigation and phone calls.

But that’s not all. You also get a moderately updated Euro5 engine, an electronically adjustable windscreen, heated seat, heated grips and cruise control. Oh, and keyless ignition.

Lot’s of tech. But I suppose there ought to be for £12,000.
