This time last year, I was recovering from my stag weekend. It wasn’t a very civilised affair and many boundaries were broken. My soul was broken too, but there wasn’t time to mope around and contemplate the debauchery (even if the Waybuloo theme tune sparked emotional turmoil) because we had a 44T mission to complete – riding to the Austrian MotoGP at the Red Bull Ring aboard a pair of KTM 1290 Super Duke GTs.
Chris was already in Austria after one of his many solo Euro expeditions and met me at Salzburg airport with his GS. He wasn’t expecting a full-size kit bag but we fashioned a rudimentary mounting and wobbled off to the KTM factory in Mattighofen. A pair of factory-fresh GTs were waiting for us and we set about finding a hotel for the night to escape the precipitation. We found Seewinkel.
The following day, we were greeted by sexy sunshine and some even sexier roads as we headed straight for the Red Bull Ring. Ultimately, our trip centred on the unveiling of the RC16, where we gained exclusive access to KTM’s all-new GP steed and engineers. On the eve of the MotoGP circus rolling into Spielberg, here’s a flashback to last year’s shenanigans….
