Days after revealing the Monster 1200 R, Ducati has unveiled its latest 2016 steed: the lightly revised Diavel Carbon. Many ‘insiders’ suggested the Diavel (and the Monster) would utilise the Multistrada’s engine, complete with Desmodromic Variable Timing, but these insiders seemingly base their inside knowledge on uncalculated assessments inside a toilet.
In truth, the 2016 Diavel Carbon features only aesthetical updates for next season. New ‘Asphalt Grey’ paint joins a Dark Stealth version, while additional updates include a Zircotec ceramic coating to the exhaust manifolds and an all-new seat. The latest incarnation of the 162bhp Testastretta 11° motor remains and is an absolute riot. Given its size and physical presence, the Diavel is also astoundingly willing to hustle and tips the scales at 205kg.
Ducati also recently announced it will showcase nine new models at the EICMA show in Milan, including the Monster 1200 R. “The year 2016 will see continued growth at Ducati,” stated Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati. “No less than nine new models, including the just-unveiled Monster 1200 R, will be joining the 2016 range. Never before has Ducati presented so many new bikes and EICMA will provide the perfect platform on which to show them to all to our enthusiastic customers.
“Two of these will take us into segments in which we’re currently not present and this is going to be one of the greatest challenges of 2016: to extend the Ducati hallmarks of style and performance to motorcyclists who were – until now – beyond our reach.”
Interesting comments from Mr Domenicali, particularly the bit regarding “segments in which we’re currently not present.” Your guess is as good as ours, although we’re guesstimating smaller capacity models and a chance to attract a younger market? Rumours surrounding a revised 899 Panigale are rife, as dealers have stopped taking orders for the current model. And everyone is talking about a top-shelf naked 1299 Panigale Streetfighter.
44Teeth will be live and direct from the Milan show. 2016 is already looking incredibly sexy…
